Thermal Imaging Cameras

Selection guide

Choose the right Thermal Imaging Cameras

Thermal cameras differ most in native detector resolution, temperature range, accuracy, refresh rate, and software support. Select the instrument around the smallest temperature pattern you need to identify and the environment in which measurements will be taken.

Specifications to compare

  • Native infrared detector resolution
  • Temperature range and stated accuracy
  • Thermal sensitivity and refresh rate
  • Fixed, manual, or automatic focus
  • Phone-connected or standalone format
  • Analysis software and device compatibility

How to choose Thermal Imaging Cameras

Native infrared resolution determines how much thermal detail the detector captures. Super-resolution or interpolated output can improve presentation but should not be confused with the sensor’s native pixel count.
Match the measurement range and accuracy specification to the task. HVAC, electrical panels, building envelopes, and automotive diagnostics can require different ranges and working distances. Reflective surfaces, distance, emissivity, and environmental conditions can affect readings.
For phone-connected cameras, verify connector type, OTG support, operating-system compatibility, and app availability before purchase. Thermal imaging highlights temperature patterns; it does not by itself identify the cause of a fault.
